While on your
Blue Ridge Mountain Vacation, take the time to
enjoy the NC horseback riding at your
fingertips. Some of the most beautiful and well
maintained riding land is in the Boone and
Blowing Rock area. With the hundreds of miles of
manicured carriage trails located on the Moses
Cone property, this is a trail-riding
destination of choice for NC horseback riding.
From trail riding to indoor lesson facilities,
the High Country has it all.
One of the most famous NC
horseback riding
facilities in the area is the Blowing Rock
Equestrian Preserve, which has hosted the
Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show annually, has
access to the 25 miles of trails on the Moses
Cone property. With more than 15 barns and
multiple riding rings, the Blowing Rock
Equestrian Preserve is the ultimate location to
board your horse while visiting the High
Country. The Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve is
also home to the Blazing Saddles organization, a
non-profit organization providing therapeutic
riding opportunities for those in need in the
High Country. Additionally, the Blowing Rock
Equestrian Preserve is home to the Blue Ridge
Equestrian 4-H Club, an organization fostering
growth and leadership skills in horseback riding
youth in the region. Whether you are looking to
bring your horse and ride on trails, or take
advantage of the exceptional training available
by barn manager and head trainer, Collette McNell, the Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve
provides some of the best NC horseback riding in
the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Another option for NC horseback riding in Boone
is Celtic Unicorn Stables at Yonahlossee
Equestrian Center. Home to the Appalachian State
University Equestrian Club’s Western Team, the
facility offers a 40-stall barn, individual and
group turn-out, guided trail rides, and an
indoor ring for riding during inclement weather.
New owners, Tim and Amy Bennett, have created an
atmosphere focused on their Scottish heritage
and incorporate that aspect of their expertise
into their trail rides, summer camps, birthdays,
and other group events. Celtic Unicorn Stables
is one of the more well-known Boone NC horseback
riding locations.
